Health and Safety
Our center meets the NS Department of Community Services regulations for health promotion and protection , following proper hygiene and infection control practices. Our center practices maximum safety practices. We are routinely inspected by the Halifax Fire and Emergency Services.
Fully Licensed and Subsidized
Our center is fully licensed. We comply with the Day Care Act and Regulations, and are inspected and monitored regularly.
Child care subsidy is available to help eligible families pay for a portion of their childcare fees
Food and Nutrition
All meals (snacks and lunch) are prepared on-site by the SCA Children Center. The kitchen at the facility is licensed by the NS Department of Agriculture and complies with their food and beverages nutrition criteria.
Curriculum
Silver Crescent Academy Children Center follows the emergent curriculum and Nova Scotia’s early learning curriculum framework approach which builds upon the interest of the children. Interests which emerge within the group can become adventures, exploration, discussion, and discoveries such as shadows, bubbles, bugs etc.
The topics for the study are captured and observed from the children’s talk through community and/or family events, currents world events.
Young learners, the facilitators and families are all involved in determining the possible direction of a project, the materials needed and community support and involvement..
Our 4+ program aims at 4 to 5 years old. Children will be prepared for school readiness. Focus is on all domains for developmentally appropriate programming. In addition to regular daily quality programming, both Arabic and French basic literacy will be part of the enhancement of the program.
Silver Crescent Academy is proud to continue introducing Arabic language to our shining stars at our SCA Children Center. With consultations of professionals and expertise in teaching the foundations of Arabic language; our children are learning Alphabets, numbers, colors, songs in a fun, hands-on and interactive play-based approach. Our staff are trained and working side by side with the Arabic programs’ director Maha ElHerbawy at the Academy.
Our little shining stars are enjoying learning the Arabic language three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
This is a great opportunity for our children, parents and staff to share and exchange culture and heritage of the language since our HRM is becoming more populated with Arabic speaking communities.
French Addition
In addition to introducing Arabic language, the Academy is also adding basic French literacy to the daily programming. Children will have the opportunity to get some familiarity with the French language through learning the alphabets, numbers, colors, shapes and songs and phrases for daily interactions.
